Seams

I cut my fabric last night, however, I'm still waiting to get my machine back from the shop...which gives me time to think...

I've never made a garment before. My pattern doesn't really say anything about finishing the seams. Is this just something I'm supposed to know? Or do I just press them open and let them go? Should I use a zig zag stitch or something?

I'm loving everyone's creations so far!
